Does Tit for Tat work in the Middle East?

   Reading time - 3

10 years ago, three Israeli teenagers Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaer and Naftali Frenkel were abducted and brutally murdered at the Gush Etzion intersection. Hamas was behind the kidnapping and murder. The bodies of the teenagers were found in the Hebron area.

After it became known about their deaths, young Israelis kidnapped and brutally murdered an Arab teenager, Muhammad Abu Khdeir, a resident of East Jerusalem.
Soon, the war in Gaza began, which became known as the “Indestructible Rock”. It lasted for 50 days, but the decision to overthrow the Hamas regime was never made, despite the tacit consent of Egypt and the broad support of Israeli society.

No one took into account the conclusions and criticism of the State Controller on the actions of the Netanyahu government in this war.

Less than 10 years later, Israel returned to Gaza. During this time, Hamas has significantly strengthened, improved its fighting methods and captured 253 Israelis during the 07.10 massacre.

The kidnapping of Israeli teenagers in the West Bank occurred on June 12, 2014, when three students from a religious school disappeared in the Gush Etzion settlement area near the Hebron Highlands after getting into a hitchhiking vehicle. One of the abductees was an Israeli and U.S. citizen.

On June 30, at around 6 p.m., the bodies of the abductees were found in a field near the settlement of Khirbat Arnawa, west of the Arab town of Halhoul on the outskirts of Hebron. On July 1, they were buried in the city cemetery of Modiin.

On August 20, 2014, Hamas politburo member Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri publicly stated at the “World Association of Muslim Thinkers” conference in Turkey that fighters from his organization’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, had planned and carried out the kidnapping of three Israelis (16-year-old Gilad Shaer, 16-year-old Naftali Frenkel and 19-year-old Eyal Yifrach).

Muhammad Abu Khdeir, a Palestinian youth of 16 years of age from Shuafat, was abducted by car from a street near his home in East Jerusalem as he was on his way to attend Ramadan morning prayers at a local mosque. Several passersby noticed the moment of the abduction and tried to stop the car, which fled in the direction of the Jewish Jerusalem neighborhood of Giva Tsarfatit. Witnesses reported the kidnapping to the boy’s family, who immediately contacted the police. The police managed to trace the young man’s cell phone, and as a result his body was found in the Jerusalem forest an hour after the kidnapping.
