ANC — solving financial problems in The Hague

   Reading time - 3

How and why Iran helped the “African National Congress” Party solve its financial problems.

A group of 160 lawyers, led by Israel Law Center – Shurat HaDin, has called on US authorities to investigate South African leaders. The lawyers, in a letter, specifically target the African National Congress Party (ANC) for alleged acts of corruption and bribery. They urge US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the Justice Department, and Congressional leaders to conduct an investigation under the Magnitsky Act.

Officials allegedly accepted Iranian bribes to cover ANC debts. In exchange, ANC members agreed to blame Israel for Gaza genocide and pursue the case in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The letter unveils a sequence of events that started in October 2023, after the war broke out, with South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor’s visit to Iran to discuss the Israel-Hamas conflict. By December, South Africa lodged a complaint against Israel in the ICJ. Surprisingly, in January, despite financial struggles, the ANC declared financial stability.

Lawyers have written a letter to American authorities, suggesting that the ANC party’s financial problems were resolved by Iran in exchange for South Africa’s complaint against Israel in the ICJ. They claim that the ANC leadership accepted a bribe from Iran to act as a diplomatic proxy against Israel, violating the Magnitsky Act. This correlation between economic fortune and the ICJ complaint implies a quid pro quo arrangement between Iran and the ANC.

The 2012 Act enables imposing government sanctions on foreign individuals engaged in human rights abuses or significant corruption. Sanctions may freeze their assets and restrict their international travel.

Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, founder and President of Shurat HaDin Israel Law Center, reveals the slanderous allegations of genocide against Israel brought by South Africa, claiming it is a manipulated tool of the Iranian regime.

“We are now lifting the veil on the slanderous ‘genocide’ case against Israel brought by South Africa, which turns out to be nothing more than a paid puppet of the Iranian regime”,- said Nitsana Darshan-Leitner. “The cynical and political use of one of the most important international conventions, which was inspired by the Jewish Holocaust, by antisemites and corrupted officials who are led by pure greed, cannot – and must not – remain unanswered.”

Over 160 lawyers are calling on the White House, Attorney General, and US Congress to investigate how the ANC cleared its debt, its agreement with Iran, and its support for Hamas. These lawyers find the ANC government’s alignment with a radical Islamic terrorist group contradictory to Nelson Mandela’s principles. Meanwhile, hearings on Israel in the ICJ are anticipated to persist this week.
