According to the leak, Prime Minister Netanyahu demanded that demobilized reservists be recalled to clear Rafah and accused the army of being unprepared for the operation. Chief of Staff Halevi noted that the army is ready for any task, but the invasion of Rafah is being delayed due to the lack of the necessary political solutions.
According to Chief of Staff Gen. Herzi Halevi, the military operation in Rafah is delayed due to political issues that need to be resolved before the troops are deployed. One of the main aspects is to solve the problem of evacuating 1.3 million refugees from Rafah and to reach an agreement with Egypt. The Chief of Staff emphasized that the army is ready for any task and that the delay in the operation is not related to the unavailability of the army.
Netanyahu accused the army of being unprepared for the operation in Rafah and demanded that demobilized reservists be called up to clean up the town. An IDF representative said that the army would do what the political echelon ordered it to do, but he “has not yet named a target date for action in Rafah.”
The IDF has a ready-made plan for the operation in Rafah, which includes coordination with Egypt and the evacuation of the population. However, this plan has been awaiting the “green light” from the political leadership for two weeks. According to Mako’s war correspondents, Israel’s Western allies are not satisfied with this “long prepared” plan, which has not been approved by the government.
Political commentators on Channel 13 saw Netanyahu’s call for demobilized reservists and the leaking of information as “preparing the ground for shifting the responsibility for the possible disruption of the operation in Rafah to the military. The situation is complicated by the fact that Netanyahu expressed his desire to complete the “cleansing” of Rafah before the beginning of Ramadan, i.e. before March 10.
